Cat City 720p - (1986 Lang: English, Hungarian, Russian)

Анимационная картина «Ловушка для кошек» 1986-го года выпуска являет из себя ничто иное, как весьма точную и острую пародию на жанровый кинематограф того времени, но и достаточно острую и колкую сатиру на капиталистическое общество Америки 70-ых годов. Не показывайте этот мультфильм своим детям. Да-да, «Ловушка для кошек» — ни что иное, как анимационная лента, главными героями которой являются пушистые, хвостатые, урчащие друзья человека. Но ребенок в ходе просмотра не только многого не поймет, но и многому удивится. А затем последуют вопросы про кровь и смерти хвостатых и усатых, которыми густо украшена «картинка» этого мультфильма, а также вопросы из категории: «А что такое секс?». Перед нами — чистый боевик с намеком на детектив, разве что все персонажи и обстановка — рисованные, да и людей «в кадре» нет.

Сюжет прост настолько, насколько он может быть прост в рамках жанра. Однако сценарист уделил достаточно внимания тому, чтобы раскрыть характеры главных героев — они не просто очередные безымянные герои на бумаге, они — «люди», которым искренне симпатизируешь. Причем, знакомство с Ником, Фрицем и конечно же, с крысиным квартетом не назвать чрезмерно продолжительным или унылым: то, на что многие мультипликаторы, как правило тратят по 30—40 минут, здесь заняло лишь вдвое меньше времени, причем с тем же, не менее отличным результатом. А главное: искренний зрительский интерес к происходящему — «а что же действительно будет дальше?»

Забудьте о подробностях, подумайте о самой сути сюжета. И не забудьте о главном герое этой ленты. «Симпсоны»? Верно! Теперь я знаю, что стало источником вдохновения для Метта Гронинга, когда он рискнул-таки вернуть мультфильмы для взрослой аудитории на экраны в самом конце 80-х, собрав при этом уйму поклонников. Но Гроннинг — Гронингом, а Терновски оказался более талантливым. Отличная картина, снятая истинным поклонником жанра. Для истинных поклонников жанра. 96 минут чистого удовольствия. 96 минут смеха нонстоп. Маленький и забытый многими шедевр. Нет. Не так. Шедевр. Анимешникам и высоколобым критикам просьба не беспокоиться.

Cat City was my first non-childrens cartoon. And I absolutely loved it. It was not a giant cornball cliche at all and it was funny as hell. The animation was super in that "A Wrinkle In Time" style and the story was terrific: The Evil Cats of Cat City hypnotize mice to service the evil deeds of the cats. Gumshoe, a Rat, is hired to stop them before it's too late.

My favorite part is at the end when the little fat patrol mouse is caught in the jungle with the bats. And, instead of them feasting on him for dinner (or whatever designated mealtime it should happen to be), he serenades them with a swinging trumpet solo, to which the Mexican bats contribute to. It is most excellent.

I highly recommend Macskafogo (aka. Cat City) for anyone looking for a good 'cartoonie' cartoon.

Cat City (Hungarian: Macskafogó (Cat Catcher)) is a 1986 Hungarian animated film, directed by Béla Ternovszky and written by József Nepp. The title Cat City was used in the United States distribution. The original Hungarian version contains a number of puns which can be hardly rendered in any other edition. The film was selected as the Hungarian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 59th Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee.

The film opens with a Star Wars style text scroll, which tells the main situation: In year 80 AM Anno Mickey Mouse, the mice of Planet X are threatened by humiliation and total apocalypse. The well-organized, fully equipped gangs of evil cats are aiming to wipe out the mouse civilization totally, not caring for the old conventions between mice and cats. But in the last moment, when the mouse leaders are beginning to consider leaving the planet, a new hope rises...

The film is a parody of several famous feature films, mainly the James Bond series. The main plot is about a special spy who is sent to the city of "Pokyo" to get the secret plan of a machine which could save the mouse civilization. Of course, the cats don't want this to happen, and send some rat gangsters to stop him, who don't always prove as efficient as their presentation showed.

Hungarian cartoons are worldwide famous, but this is a special one. First of all, I have to mention that not everyone will understand this humorous masterpiece, but everyone should watch it at least once! The characters are very funny, the story is for all ages, but you have to be at least 16 to understand all the jokes. This is the film of my childhood, but I saw it again a few days ago (I'm 19), and it was a real fun to see it again! If you are Hungarian, this movie is compulsory for you, if you are not, for you, too!

I haven't seen the english version yet but i am sure that it will never reach the hungarian level of humor or the use of the tone of voice, simply because it was written in hungarian for hungarians who are able understand the password to the mouse base for that matter and appreciate the cleverness behind it, which goes like this: egy aprocska kalapocska, benne csacska macska mocska. roughly means: a tiny hat, in it the filth of a silly cat. See the difference?

There are lots of games with words in the original, like the password at the mouse hq, or almost every characters name... the names are playing with words in hungarian, english, and german, but you must know hungarian to understand those.... like the evil cat "Teufel", witch means 'devil' in german, but sounds almost like "sour cream" in hungarian... and everyone knows, cats like sour cream ;)

The best cartoon ever!
